I run about 5-7 miles per day, so I tend to buy new running shoes at least every 6 months or so, and I always rotate through 2-3 pairs. I bought these to replace my favorite running shoes: New Balance Fresh Foam Zante Pursuit V1s, that, unfortunately, no longer seem to be available (at least not in my size). It seemed like these 1080 v11s were supposed to be a logical replacement for my Zantes, but they've really been anything but.The pros: they're light; they're attractive; .... ummmThe cons: they're painful; they don't feel like they have enough "drop" (my feet feel like they're tilted backwards, lower at the heel ... they're not, but that's how they feel); speaking of the heel, the part of the boot around the heel is too low, so it feels like my foot is always popping up and almost out of the shoe (I changed how I lace them at two top eyelets on each side, which seemed to help somewhat, but they still feel loose around my heel).I tried walking in them for a few miles to break them in -- something I do with most new sneakers, and it usually works well. These were comfortable for walking, so I had high hopes. But my first run and every one since then -- at least 30 miles or so, now -- was painful. My fifth metatarsal (right side of my right foot) seems to get an inordinate amount of pressure for some reason in these shoes, so after a mile (sometimes less) it becomes painful -- to the point where I've had to stop running. I thought running in them would help me wear them in better so that they'd be more comfortable -- like all my other New Balance sneakers have been (and I have numerous pairs), but so far, they're still painful. And I'm about at the point where I'm just going to give up on them and maybe relegate them to daily wear, which they seem fine for, based on the walking I've done in them.It could be that it's just my feet. But my other pairs of NBs don't have this problem, nor do any of my Adidas, Reebok, or Nikes. Given that, I suspect the problem isn't actually my feet but rather the 1080s.It's frustrating that I can't get more Zante Pursuit v1s. I still have them in my regular rotation, but they're getting old and have lost some of their cushion, so I won't be able to run in them too much longer. Had I realized that NB wouldn't have a good replacement for them, I would have stocked up on several more pairs before they disappeared.Meanwhile, it seems that my quest for good replacements will continue. My husband loves the shoes. However we cannot keep them clean! We have tried all the recommended methods of cleaning them and they just get dirtier and dirtier. We live in a very dry climate and he is loving how comfortable they are, in fact he bought a second pair to put away for when these are worn out . He is old and quite sedentary. Not happy at all! For the price,they should still look great.
