I've never used a salt grinder much, because I typically use coarse kosher salt and a bunch of finishing salts in my cooking. For pepper, I almost always rely on the can (it's convenient, consistent, and it's pepper). But I realized that my grinders were what were preventing me from using fresh peppercorn and good salt to grind on my own, because all my previous grinders were, for lack of a better term, dogsh*te garbage up until now.In my search for a new grinder, I considered two options - this Cole & Mason set, and the Pepper Cannon (which is pricey, but all the reviews I've read and watched make it seem like an incredibly good product). While I don't need my pepper to come out in firehose mode, I decided to try this set out first and if I didn't like it I'd go Pepper Cannon.Wow. Just, wow. I never knew what a GOOD grinder should feel like, or output. The amount of pepper you get from each turn at any of the coarseness levels is amazingly good. It's very easy to turn, super easy to set your desired coarseness, and once you get used to the angle at which to hold it (more on this in a moment), it does a FANTASTIC job. I never ground fine black pepper before, but it comes out as fine (or finer!) than the stuff in the tin. And super consistent. And way more flavorful. Now, about the "angle". I learned quickly from other reviews that grinding horizontally or vertically can cause a small jam. Thankfully, this is easily corrected. And if you ever do have a jam? Turn the grinder a half turn or so in the opposite direction, and go again. Boom - problem solved, jam cleared. Easy peasy!I love this grinder so much, I met up with an ex in a parking lot before we went to grab food together and excitedly showed her the grinder (yes, in a parking lot) and she immediately bought a set once she got home. Truely a great set.The salt grinder works just fine, too. ;)
